Xia Qing (夏青) B. 1983, Liaoning, China

Xia Qing expressed vividly the basic live scene in animalia-hunting and escaping with the method of approaching the targets, creating a special animal image symbol for us as well as the surreal scene inside his mind.

Benjamin acquired a number of works by the artist in 2012 when visiting the artists studio in Beijing and is among other collectors of contemporary Chinese art who admires Xia Qing for his deeply moving, graphic plays of nature such as the Bloody Rare and Pet pocket Series where Xia Qing pitches a flesh like forming a bright and bold reds oils against a backdrop of abstract landscapes juxtaposing a traditional influence in style so painterly it inspires and excites both on an aesthetic and allegorical level.
